Another wonderful armizare “retreat” event hosted by the Chicago Swordplay Guild at the Dekoven Center has come and gone. There were three days of classes plus an unarmored longsword competition and an armored deed of arms as well as the usual convivial camaraderie among the gathered Fiore enthusiasts and friends, both old and new. Between the classes, events, and discussions, which often went late into the night, I came home with much food for thought.

I represented Forteza Historical Swordplay Guild by presenting a lecture on armor in Fiore’s lifetime as well as two classes, the first on sword in armor techniques derived from dagger play mechanics and the second on working with developing personal understating of space and possibilities as they relate to the plays of the first Remedy Master of the dagger. I also fought in the armored deed and was honored by the other participants by being named First Among Equals for the day. I hope to get some pictures processed an deposited here soon.
